The Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo was built on the same site as a small chapel that had been built in 1099 after the demolition of the tomb of emperor Nero.

Through the centuries ulterior interventions gave the basilica a Baroque look, the same that is still admirable today.

The main artists of the Renaissance worked at this church, and it hosts the most important paintings of Caravaggio, affrescos of Pinturicchio, architecture by Raffaello and Bramante and some sculptures by Andrea Bregno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, such as the magnificent organ held by two little bronze angels who represent the strength of God.
