Project Description

Colosseum

The Colosseum, the biggest amphitheatre in the world, once known as the Anfiteatro Flavio, is among the most representative monuments in Rome and it is a compelling sight.

The visit to the Colosseum is a unique experience and for 2,000 years, this arena represented the symbol of power as it was built to celebrate the glory of the Roman Empire.

It could contain approximately from 50,000 to 80,000 people and it was used for gladiator fights and other public demonstrations (such as shows on hunting, commemorations of famous battles and tragedies based on classical mythology).

Like the rest of the historical city centre, the Colosseum is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In 2007, the complex was also inserted among the new Seven Wonders of the World, as a result of a contest organized by the New Open World Corporation (NOWC).
