Project Description

Saint Peter’s square

Saint Peter’s square is considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world and it is an important example of Baroque architecture. As it is dedicated to Saint Peter, it is a daily meeting point for thousands of Catholics who come from all over the world.

The giant Basilica of Saint Peter overlooks the square and surrounds it with its many columns, which were designed by Bernini.

There are two enormous fountains with an Egyptian obelisk in between them in the square. The obelisk is made of red granite and was brought to Rome by Emperor Caligola.

Every Sunday, at 12 o’clock, the Pope appears from the window of the Apostolic Palace to recite the prayer of the Angelus Domini.
