Project Description

Baths of Caracalla

They are one of the most majestic examples of imperial Roman baths and they were built by Emperor Caracalla in 216 a.d.

These baths were the most sumptuous in the capital although they were destined for the masses, since the highest social classes used to go to other places such as the Agrippa, Nero or Trajan baths.

The Caracalla Baths were second in size only to the ones of Diocletian, which were built later; however, these ruins are the most intact example of important imperial baths.
