Project Description

In Rome, as in many other European cities, you have to pay a tourist tax, which is used to improve the tourists’ welcome. In particular, a fraction of the income is put towards urban decoration and tourist promotions.

In welcoming structures, which do not include hostels, the tourist tax is applied to a maximum of 10 consecutive overnights in the solar year and the different fees are shown in the following chart:

Type of lodging City Tax
Hotel 1 star € 3.00 per day per person
Hotel 2 stars € 3.00 per day per person
Hotel 3 stars € 4.00 per day per person
Hotel 4 stars € 6.00 per day per person
Hotel 5 stars € 7.00 per day per person
Agritourism € 4.00 per day per person
Bed & Breakfast € 3.50 per day per person
Holiday Home € 3.50 per day per person
Camping Site € 2.00 per day per person

How do you pay it?
You can pay by card or with cash at the end of your stay, directly to your welcoming structure which will give you a nominative receipt after the payment. The contribution is applied up to a maximum of 10 consecutive overnights in the solar year as long as they have taken place in the same welcoming structure; 5 nights if you are staying in open places such as camping sites and equipped areas for temporary stays.

Who can avoid paying?
People who live in Rome, children up to 10 years of age, those who accompany patients, members of the State Police and of the Armed Forces and one bus driver or tourist accompanying every 23 people.
