Project Description

Piazza di Spagna

Piazza di Spagna, with its famous Spanish Steps leading up to Trinità dei Monti, is one of the most famous and elegant squares in the whole of Rome.

The famous Barcaccia fountain, which goes back to the early Baroque period, sits in the centre of the square. It was sculptured by Pietro Bernini and his better known son, Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

The monumental staircase of 135 steps is decorated with many garden-terraces, which are decorated with azaleas in spring and summer.

The sumptuous and aristocratic steps were designed in a way that by getting closer to them, the scenic effects would get more and more vivid. In fact, according to Baroque ideals, long and deep perspectives were often created and ended with wings or monumental looking backgrounds.

In the area around Piazza di Spagna, you will find the most chic streets of the city with many luxury shops.
