All around Piazza Mincio there is the Coppedè district, a complex made of buildings and cottages, projected by the ingenious architect Gino Coppedè.

It is the most original artistic-architectonical experiment of its kind and was created in Rome in the first years of the 1900s.

The combination of Liberty and Art Decò with the Italian repertoire of the past centuries such as Mannerism, Baroque, and Medieval influences, resulted in a unique panorama which gives the impression of being in a small magical kingdom populated by fairies.

The main entrance to the Coppedè District is affirmed by a huge evocative arch which connects two buildings. Under this arch there is an enormous chandelier in wrought iron, whereas in the middle of the square there is the Fontana delle Rane (Fountain of the Frogs).

Thanks to its particular and suggestive architecture, the Coppedè District was chosen by the film director, Dario Argento, as the background to some scenes of his movies.

It’s a hidden and unknown corner of Rome, a dreamy ambient that can’t go unseen but that doesn’t belong to typical itineraries.
