Project Description

The Museum of the Imperial Forums

This museum is located in the Trajan Markets and Imperial forums. It was created as an add-on to the pathway that takes you through the ancient remains in the open air space of the archaeological sites. You can also see fragments of the architectural and statuesque decorations. This combination commemorates from a distance the complexity of the public buildings that they once decorated.

Sometimes you will also find temporary exhibitions organized by the museum.

The Trajan column is still in the Imperial Forum, behind the Basilica Ulpia. It was raised to celebrate the conquest of Dacia (currently Romania), achieved by Emperor Trajan. This moment is considered the climax of the power and maximum expansion of the Roman Empire. The Trajan column has been standing for 1,900 years and it commemorates, in an incredibly detailed way, all the salient moments that belonged to the territorial expansion and its ferocious battles.
