It owes it’s uniqueness to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, which contains mosaics which belong to the V century and a stairway designed by Bernini.

Nearby there is the hipster neighborhood of Monti. 

The Monti district is full of bars, clothing shops and restaurants that are packed with locals.
